Kettleballs – my boyfriend cannot get enough of them and has been raving on about them for the past month, so to keep him quiet I decided to give them a go………….
At first glance they look pretty simple tools, but as soon as I lifted one I was taken aback (quite literally), these kettleballs come in different weights, I started off with a 2kg and soon progressed to 8kg!
My instructor Tom G from Virgin who has amazing pecks by the pay showed me a series of moves – trying to stay focused I blundered my way through them. The most basic and easiest one is the ‘swinging monkey ‘ as I call it and involves keeping ones knees soft and swinging the weight back and forth with hips thrusted in the air – not a pretty sight!
After about 6 swings I had a mild bout of perspiration on my forehead and had to break.
The next move he had me doing was ‘tummy lifts’, I held the weight on my chest and lifted myself off the mat – a bit like a sit up but heavier, I quite liked this on, a) because it involved lying down and secondly I was a lot more supported and balanced and of course there was the view from the top as Tom ordered me to keep going and push harder!
So I can kind of see where my boyfriend is coming from but I think I will need a few more one to one’s with Tom before I am really converted!
